Went to watch "Nanking" today. Have a lot of thoughts after watching this show. For one, it was claimed to be a true story by the producer. My darling and i have opinions on this statement. Who can be so 100% sure that what they know about what had happened in the past is the truth? I mean everyone has their own perspectives and views on what has happened. So everyone tells a different story. Every story is true to the extent that it is being experienced by the person narrated it. And so it cannot really be considered as the whole truth to an incident. And the movie is actually more like telling the Nanking incident from many people's perspective. So i feel it is at best a combination of autobiographies, not the truth. Who is in the best position to state that whether a piece of information is the truth or not? I do not think that anyone is.
Furthermore, as quoted from my darling, even a history text can be considered a fiction. Simply because it is written by a human. He has his own thinking, beliefs, concepts and etc. He wrote what he knows and what he believes in what has happened. At best it can be deemed as his perspective of an incident that occurs in the past, namely the history. And those who can write about this socall true occurence in history are those who are educated and learned. So how representative is their knowledge of these "history". History that we know exists in certain form because they serve a purpose. It may or may not be true. But 1 thing is certain is that they are written from a particular perspective, as it is hard to stay neutral, though not impossible.
Other thoughts i have are that it's terrifying to know the horror things that a human can do to another. It seems that once rule and boundary are lifted off, humans can become beast. Bullying on those weaker ones. It's horrifying to imagine the things MAN, literally, can do to woman. It's just so disturbing.
And of course the better side, whereby there are still people, whom we considered as good, who do good deeds in times of turmoil. Human are so complicated. They can exist in 2 extremes. Doing horrible things. Yet there are others who lend a helping hand.
It's amazing how because to achieve the ambition of a person or a certain group of people that innocent lives are lost n tortured. So in situations like war, who is to blame? Can we really pinpoint who is at fault? Even if fault can be determined, should the whole country bear the burden n blame because of a certain group of person? Haiz dealing with humans usually involved a lot of unanswered questions.
